Auto Expert - Tim West Bio

My technical background started when I was very young. When I was 12 my parents got me my first computer. By the age of 14 I had learned HTML and some Visual basic. I was building my own systems and pretty much became the neighborhood computer repairman.

This opened the door for a world of hobbies.

At 15 I started off working as a tire tech at Discount Tire Co. By the time I turned 17 I was the service coordinator. Wheels and Tires was just a small step in the automotive door.

I got bored very quickly. Once I knew tires better than I knew my parents, I knew it was time to move on.

From the discount tire company I moved to Sears Roebuck, where they hired me on as a general service/ sales assistant. I quickly became an asset in the shop because of my great customer service and versatile skills. I was given the service manager position at 18 years old.

I knew cars pretty well at this point (at least I thought). I continued my position as service manager through the "Sears - NTW - NTB - Tire Kingdom" nightmare.

At 22 I started at Firestone as a Service Advisor. Firestone sent me to classes and extensive training. This is when I started earning my ASE certifications.

Within my first year I was given the opprotunity to run the service department again. Except now, I was being mentored by several master techs. This opened my eyes. I now knew the difference between a mechanic, a tech, and a part replacer. So I started studying engines and injections fuel systems. The complexity of these systems kept my head in books for hours at a time. To me, it was very interesting to know the mechanics of a complete vehicle. How the sensors, resistors, pumps, filters all work in sync. By this time i'm diagnosing, testing OHMS and voltage drops, checking square wave patterns and signals from the pcm.

To this day I still read as much as much as I can and take in all the learning I can. Vehicles are changing. Especially with such a unstable economy I dont know if I need to master the hybrid, or stick to my guns. Either way it's been a great ride. I started answering questions for Just Anaswer in May 2008.

I quickly became a very high rated expert using my communication skills, my computer skills and my automotive skills all in one place.

Here is the feedback from my customers. I am providing the link to prove there was no editing done. You see the good, the bad and the ugly.

I passed these experts tests in order to be approved in the category.
