Information

What causes blue exhaust smoke?

Blue smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe is a symptom that something is wrong, and probably means you’re burning oil. Even if the blue smoke goes away after the engine is warmed up, ignoring the symptom could cost more money in repairs in the long run.

What could be wrong?

There are a lot of reasons for burning oil. The ead gasket could be damaged, but it’s more likely that the engine’s valve or piston seals are worn or that there’s engine oil leaking into the cylinder area and being burned with the fuel and air mixture.

What are my options?

Dependent on the severity of the problem, an owner can perform some repairs. However, it may be necessary to take the vehicle to an auto repair shop if the problem isn’t easily identifiable. There are numerous automotive websites that advertise repair services and sell parts. Other sites offer free DIY repair instructions and others sell service repair manuals.
