Information
Why does a vehicle need a clutch?
A vehicles needs a clutch to assist the vehicle in stopping without killing the engine. Wheels need to be disconnected form the engine, and a clutch controls the slippage between a spinning engine and a non-spinning transmission.
How do I know the clutch needs to be replaced?
The most common clutch problem that calls for a new clutch is slippage, which is typically caused by an old or worn clutch disc. The engine may still rev and race, but full engine power may not be transmitted tothe wheels. Another problem could be difficulty shifting, which could mean a problem with the clutch release. Clutch replacement isn’t for everyone. It can be complicated and may best be left to the experts.
What are my options?
Although an owner can perform some clutch diagnostics, unless the owner is an expert mechanic, the vehicle should probably be taken to an auto repair shop. There are automotive websites that offer free troubleshooting tips, while others advertise repair services and sell parts. Service manuals can also be purchased online.
