Information
What makes an engine work?
An internal combustion engine runs on a mixture of gasoline and air. It utilizes heat energy from burning fuel, and converts it into mechanical energy. The ignited mixture increases the cylinder pressure, which then causes the piston within the cylinder to move. Consequently, the piston moves the crankshaft, and causes movement of the vehicle’s wheels.
Can I perform repairs on my engine?
If the engine is misfiring, the problem may be something as simple as replacing bad spark plus, or it could be something more complicated. It could also be a fuel/air intake problem or other ignition system problem. Using a methodical approach to pinpoint the problem will save time in the long run.
What are my options?
The owner may be able to diagnose the problem and repair it. If the problem is difficult to pinpoint, the vehicle will need to be taken to an auto repair shop. There are numerous automotive websites that advertise auto repair services and/or sell parts and supplies. Other sites offer free diagnostic tips and DIY repair instructions or sell service manuals and how-to books.
