Information
What about the Windshield?
Typically, vehicle windshields are made of laminated safety glass, which consists of a think layer of flexible clear plastic film between two or more layers of glass. Windshields protect passengers from rocks and other debris, but more importantly, they protect the driver and passengers in the event of an accident.
Can I repair the windshield myself?
Whether an owner can repair a windshield depends on the type and severity of damage. If the damage is fairly minor, like rock chips or scratches, it’s possible to repair the windshield with a repair kit. If the damage is serious, the windshield needs to be replaced.
What are my options?
The vehicle can either be taken to an auto repair shop or glass replacement shop. Some vendors offer mobile services to repair or replace a windshield. An owner may be able to repair minor damage to a windshield. There are automotive websites that advertise repair and replacement services, and others offer free DIY instructions on how to repair a windshield.
