What is an engine stall?
Whether the vehicle?s engine is idling or the vehicle is slowing down, a stall occurs when a vehicle?s engine stops turning. Although a check engine warning light may come on, the cause of the problem, or problems, may be difficult to diagnose since many electronic components are used simultaneously to operate the various systems.
Why does my engine stall?
There are a myriad of reasons why an engine stalls. If there?s not enough fuel pressure, it could be a clogged fuel filter, or the fuel pump could need to be replaced. If spark plugs aren't working at full efficiency, or if there are problems with the ignition system, the vehicle may stall. If it's the ignition system, an ignition coil could need to be replaced, or it could be fouled plugs, improper plug gapping, or many other things.
What are my options?
A skilled owner may be able to diagnose and repair some of the problems, or the vehicle may need to be taken to a local auto repair shop. There are numerous automotive websites that advertise auto repair services and sell parts. Other sites offer free DIY instructions, or sell service manuals and how-to books.
