You're putting the cart (FAR IN FRONT OF THE HORSE) here.
DON"T CHANGE ANY PARTS UNTIL A PRO CONFIRMS WHAT PARTS WERE DAMAGED AND NEED TO BE CHANGED !!!!
Hitting a small pothole (MEANS NOTHING) !!!!
What do you mean, when you say, (AND FEELS LIKE I WENT OVER A HUGE POTHOLE) ????
Since hitting the bump are you having steering issues?
If yes, then tell us in detail exactly what they are, (BUT DON'T CHANGE ANY PARTS YET) !!!!
no steering issues. i
no steering issues. i replaced my tie rods (inner and outter) a few months ago. greased my ball joints. and what i mean is when i go over the smallest of bumps it feels like i am hitting some really bad holes in the road. not a smooth dip into it but more like a crashing into it.
thank you for your advice so far
mike
check the tire pressures and
check the tire pressures and the sway bar links and bushings.
are there any shocks leaking oil?
i will have to check on
i will have to check on those, but i can say that the shocks are very badly rusted and deteriorated alot. if i push down on he truck and get it bouncing it will continue bouncing a couple times after i let go. tire pressure i am thinking should be good but will re examine. in the morning ill look at sway bar links and bushings. anything else i should check?
thanks
mike
as a rule the bounce test is
as a rule the bounce test is 3 and your out, so if you get it bouncing good and stop, and it keeps bouncing more than 3 times, i replace mine no matter what around 50,000 miles, along with the steering dampner every 20,000, makes it feel like a new truck.
does it make a knocking noise when you hit a bump or just a heavey joust(rebound)?
it feels like my truck is
it feels like my truck is going to break apart when i hit a bump. it is very bouncy after hitting one but the initial point of impact is very hard knock.
check the ball joints,
check the ball joints, lateral arm bushings, radis links and look at leaf spring leafs where the larg u bolts squzee them togather, they crack in that spot.
use a pry bar to pry on the bushings to see if they are loose.
let us know what you find.
ok i will and i have a few
ok i will and i have a few more questions . but i dont want to take up too much of your time. should i post again or would you be willing to help me out.
thanks,
mike
Mike, It sounds like front
Mike,
It sounds like front and rear shocks and springs are shot, and replacement is necessary.
when shocks are totally worn
when shocks are totally worn out (which is what this sounds like) they will allow the frame or suspension parts to bump aganist the "stops" which can give you that hard jolt when the truck hits even a
"small-ish" bump.
ok, well i haven't gone out
ok, well i haven't gone out yet to check on the other things. but you guys rock on here and i have told quite a few people about this site over the past couple years. thanks for the help
it's all about the Q AND A
it's all about the Q AND A
yes, and i am going out to
yes, and i am going out to look at everything today. weather has been pretty bad around here lately. the drivers tail of my truck is being suspended by nothing. it is laying on just rubber mounts. ill have to see what the problem is with that.
thanks
mike
if you need pics of the
if you need pics of the suspenion and componet names, i can send info to a email ad. if you like, let me know, mws919
i have found out that it is
i have found out that it is the front hanger for the leaf spring causing the sagging. problem is now. how to get the new bolts through the frame. gas tank is snug against it on other side. i guess take bed off or drop tank
pull the top bolt frist and
pull the top bolt frist and you should be able to lower leaf and remove lower bolt.
