What can I do about my air conditioning? I have a 2006 Saturn Ion level 2 and when I turn on the air conditioning it emits this musky funky oder, now I've heard its a mildew buildup in the ac compressor. Is there a cheap fix?

I had called Saturn and asked them what I would need to do, but they want to charge me $140 to do a climate clean thing.

there are kits that some auto stores sell, products that foam up,probably about $20, requires you to usually punch a small hole in the casing to allow drain. The pro's will probably use a chemical that is released in the interior and run the a/c on max so it gets into the system. In the future remember that Max Air closes off the door to outside air, recirculation the inside air, and if the car is turned off when the door is closed the water usually doesn't evaporate causing stagnat and mildew. Try to use the Normal a/c then switch off the vehicle to prevent this from happening again.

the air box that houses the evaporator core has a drain hole at the bottom to allow condesation to drain out of the air box. It's the water you see dripping under the car when the a/c is on. some times dust and dirt mix with this water and plug up the drain. simple solution to this problem is to make sure this drain hole is clear . there shold be a small hose leading out of the air box. remove blower fan housing and fan. mix a solution of 1 part clorox to 3 parts water and spray into air box thru blower housing hole.alow to drain. then replace blower fan and housing. this should cure the musty oder. just make sure that the drain is keep clean to help prevent this problem from reoccuring.

buy the claening kit from dealer and do it yourself. it's easy to do.
