06 Mercury Montery will not start. clicks, but not start. New starter 1 yr ago. Battery is great, connections clean and secure on battery and starter. Any thoughts?

try jumping the solinoid wire

try jumping the solinoid wire at the starter, if it still just clicks, you'll need a starter, if it does turn over, it's in the wiring or ign. switch.

Also disable any "After

Also disable any "After Market" device that may be installed. Examples below.

Alarm
Remote starter
Remote door locks

You stated you installed a "NEW" starter a year ago. Did you mean to say a "Rebuilt" starter. If it was rebuilt, understand that (ANY) rebuilt part can fail in a matter of:

Days
Weeks
or Months after being installed.

Hmmm. it was under warranty

Hmmm. it was under warranty and I ASSUMED it was "new". Thanks I'll try.

vb, Before you pull the

vb,

Before you pull the starter, try the test below. When done as indicated it will either (RULE IN) or (RULE OUT) a starter issue.

Get a second person to sit behind the wheel and hold the ignition key all the way foward to the full start position. Now while the key is held in that position, you hit the starter a few times in a few different spots with a hammer. If the vehicle starts the starter is defective and must be replaced.

even if the starter fails the

even if the starter fails the on-car tests, have it checked again after you take it off (autozone will test it for free).

The only problem with taking

The only problem with taking your starter to (AUTO ZONE) or (ANY STORE) for that matter, is that you have (TO REMOVE IT). Understand that (COULD) mean the (REMOVAL) of a part that (MAY NOT HAVE FAILED). Do the test I posted, but (BEFORE) you hit the starter with the hammer (CONFIRM) a circuit to the starter. To do that (GROUND) one side of a (TEST LIGHT) and touch the other side of the light to (VOLTAGE) at the starter when the (KEY) is turned to the (FULL START POSITION ALL THE WAY FOWARD POSITION). If the test light (DOES NOT) glow then there is (MOST LIKELY) no need for you to hit the starter with the hammer. The light (NOT) glowing means that the problem is somewhere between the (IGNITION SWITCH AND STARTER) but (NOT) the starter itself.

ON THE OTHER HAND:

If the test light (DOES) glow, then you should hit the starter with the hammer. At that point, if your "Mercury" (DOES) start, then the starter is defective and must be replaced.

Of course, ASE's info is

Of course, ASE's info is correct. I intented that you would have the starter checked if it failed the test he proposed (not instead of the test he proposed).
