check vacuum at intake
check vacuum at intake manifold and at transmission modulator, if diff. check for leak in line going to transmission.

Checked vacuum (15 lbs.) at manifold with identical finding (15lbs.) at transmission modulator. Thank you very much for your response. Strongly suspect my problem may be internal. Great difficulty acquiring information re: this problem. Have ordered original shop manual.

Crew,
What's the color and condition of the fluid? Drop the pan and tell us the concentration of metal particles stuck to the magnets. Little, light, or no particles is good. Anything more could mean an internal mechanical problem. Chunks of metal in the pan or stuck to the magnets is not a good sign. In that case definite internal mechanical problem.
Fluid excellent condition,
Fluid excellent condition, new filter. This condition has existed since I obtained the truck 16 yrs. ago. Since that I have changed oil & filter twice & a supposed professional transmission checkout & rebuild & the condition remains. This is a very low use vehicle. No particles in pan or on magnet. Limited information I have obtained from service bulletins indicate possible band and or clutch pack application timing. Thank for your response!

Crew,
You're last answer is on the positive side. I mean fluid in good condition and nothing showing up on the magnets, well that's good. That raises the question if a "Shift Kit" could help? Contact the folks at the link below and let us know the results.

check driveline lash" how
check driveline lash" how much spin of driveshaft in neutral with wheels on ground", if sloopy. check axle and shafts u joints.
in park, wheels off ground, see how much play is in the rear shaft, if alot, and all u joints are tight, pos. transfer case chain streched?
Crew, Haven't seen a posting
Crew,
Haven't seen a posting from you in over a week how's it goin? In addition to a shift kit you should install an adjustable vacuum modulator like the one shown in the link below. Most shift kits come with adjustable modulator's, but understand that you can buy it separately and install it to see if it resolves your problem.
