1993 Subaru Legacy L Wagon. It has been making a clicking noise around the left front area for about 5 months. The noise was higher (in pitch) and now is lower and the rpms are higher than normal. What could contribute to this?

it is automatic and I only notice it in drive. I will try it out tomorrow and see if that makes a difference as well as trying it without the fuse.

I didn't really notice the noise when I went in reverse and it seemed like it got a little bit quieter in AWD versus FWD. When I took out the fuse and then backed up there was a big bang/boom and I don't know what that was about or if it is something to be concerned with. It was hard for me to put it into drive and back into park than usual. The noise sounds closer to what it was before but it's still there. The car seemed to shake less in AWD than FWD as well.
