never heard of a reset botton for the starter? may be they ment they had a moduel reset. sometimes by disconnect the batt. moduels will reset. what is the problem you are having?
This is my Mom's car. From what she has told me, when they would try to start the car it would not turn over. If they wiggled the steering wheel it would sometimes start. Now it won't start at all. She had it towed to a shop and they told her she burned up the starter trying to start it. They would need $600.00 to replace the starter before they could diagnose the original problem. One of the things about this that doesn't make sense to me is that they told her they bypassed the starter and it would start. Why could they not diagnose if there is an additional problem in this way and if they can bypass the starter and it starts wouldn't that mean the starter is the problem?
The reset is not for the starter specifically. It is a reset for the computer. I have since been told to do the reset and a computer diagnostics to push and hold the warmer button and off button. Does this make since to you?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
yes. if you had to wiggle the steering wheel, that is a sign of ingition switch problems. ie- the sceurity moduel monitors key sweep, that is how it can tell it's the right key. next, if it will not crank because the starter sol. is not getting any power, sceurity shuts it off. it also kills spark and fuel. when they by passed/jumpped the starter, what they did is powered the starter to spin cranking the engin. this does not mean starter is faulty. in fact it means the starter is good. never heard of resetting a security mod. that way, just the hvca mod. now, what i'd do, if i were you, i'd get moms car to the dealer and have the ingition cylinder or wiring in the steering col. repaired. they will also have the info/scan tool there to program the key if it should need replacing. most dealers charge around $80-90 per hour. pay for one hour and see what they come up with. let us know, mws919
