It happens when I turn the steering wheel, making a left, and when I am braking. It is a thumping, and it happens once per turn. When I step on the brakes it happens simultaneously; I step on the brakes, "thump"

Sammie,

On the brakes you said it happens simultaneously. Is it thump? or thump thump thump?

Chrysler has all kinds of steering problems. No telling how many tie rods and racks I have replaced. Check this site:

You can check for play in the steering by safely jacking the front end up (both tires off the ground).
You can check for play by placing your hands at 3 & 9 o'clock. Turn the wheel back and forth and check for free play.

It is just one thump, also I have checked using the 3&9 and it has no free play. I will do as Big Block says and will let you guys know.

there's a torsional are that runs from the front sub frame to the steering knuckel, it's hard to diag., but we replace them all the time.
it's not the lower control arm but the link in front of it.
some times can be diag. by hitting the brakes on and off at slow speeds"parking lot speeds".
if you hear it knocking/clunking when hitting the brakes, it's more than likelt the problem.

Sounds like you are being pretty thorough. If you haven't already, check the sway bar bushings as well.
Also if you haven't you might want to check 6 & 12 o'clock. You can use a large pry bar under the tire to check for play as well.

check to see if the caliper or brake pads are loose. this could casue a thump when the brakes are applied. once pedal is released the caliper slowly goes back to its original position---then causes another thump on the next brake application.

Sammie,

Another thing to check and a common problem on Chryslers is the steering knucke under the brake pad. The pads tend to rub a groove in the knuckle which causes free play and makes a noise as bfree stated above. They have a hardware kit (can be bought serarately but comes with most pad sets) that is designed to help with this problem. It was the engineers way of saying "if we can't build it right we'll just rig it in the future". It's better than buying a new knuckle though.

Sammie,

I know you have the manual but here is a link below.
I've heard them called a number of things (strut rod, torsional, tension strut). I think this is what mws is talking about. The link below refers to them as "tension strut".
