I recommend that you have the air bag (aka SIR or SRS) module scanned for codes and post the codes back here.

Also, I'm not sure what you meant by "(WONT CRASH)".

Was that a statement or a question?

If you were asking if the air bags COULD accidentally deploy, by rights, the answer is yes. A fault in the system can cause unwanted deployment. It is however, more likely that they won't deploy when needed since in most cases, the system is disabled when the light is on. Either way it is a safety issue and should be repaired ASAP.

Under what conditions did the air bag light set. Were you just driving and it came on suddenly and without warning?

Did the light come on right after or soon after a particular routine maintance or repair was done? If it did describe in detail the nature of that work.

Has any work been done recently to or around the steering column?

Yes but in order to determine where we need to start you'll need to do what I recommended. Any shop worth their salt should be able to perform this. Autozone will do a free code scan but I'm not sure which one you use or if their scan tool will access SRS. Scan the computer for codes and post the codes back here. Also, you don't have to use the reply feature. In fact it, is often easier to see your progress if you don't. Thanks.

First thing is to disable your caps lock key. Next thing is:

Who replaced the battery?
Was it you or a shop?
If a shop do you still have the receipt?

If you do then go back to the shop and tell them to clear the ABS light. If they look at you like you have fourteen heads, and say that the battery replacement has nothing to do with the setting of the ABS light, then you can sue them in small claims court and DEFINITELY win. Sue them for being INEPT and NEGLIGENCE. Again you will definitely win. They are supposed to be professionals. If they are in the business of replacing batteries, then they are supposed to know how to reset an ABS light.
