Brake and abs light comes on periodically I have replaced both front hub bearing assemblies with speed sensors, had it aligned and check air pressure in front tires is there something else I am missing

Bigwill, Was the brake and

Bigwill,

Was the brake and abs light coming on periodically before you did all the mention work? If it was then let us know and we'll tell you what to check. If not, and the lights started to come on periodically after you did all the mentioned work, then obviously you have to take a second and third look at the work you did. Check for mistakes, things that were accidentally broken, or things that were accidentally left disconnected.

Yes the lights were coming on

Yes the lights were coming on before I did the work that is why I did it because I was told that was probably the problem

Bigwill, Your statement is

Bigwill,

Your statement is below.

Sorry buddy, but you were given some really wrong information. Simple first. Is the abs working and is the brake fluid level full? For the most accurate repair information you gotta post the year, make, model, mileage, if dual rear wheels or not, and if there is any kind of traction option or control? Prior to the lights coming on, did you you replace any brake pads or do any kind of brake work? If you did and you used the conventional method (large c-clamp) to retract the caliper piston back into it's bore you could have damaged the ABS modulator valve. Right now do the basics first. Check all the abs sensors and make sure they are clean. To clean them use a good quality brake cleaning type chemical that comes in a spray can. Next thing is to check all the wiring going to the abs sensors. Make sure the wiring is in good shape. The wiring shouldn't be pulled to tight or stretched. This can cause it to break internally. Make sure the wiring is not chaffed anywhere, and make sure there are no copper strands of wiring showing. Also make sure that the wire connectors at each sensor are on tight and that the connection is free of all dirt, and corrosion. You can use the same brake clean chemical to clean both ends of each connection. When you're done with all of the above, if the lights are still on your gonna have to scan the abs module for error codes. Post any codes you find so we can see them.

I did replace the front pads

I did replace the front pads and rotors but that was after i had replaced the hub bearing and speed sensors where is the abs modulator valve located. Also my truck is a 2001 silverado z71 it has about 230000 miles on it. please send any technical info that might help Thanks bigwill49

As a general rule. The amber ABS light means that the computer has seen a problem in the ABS portion only.
The red Brake light means that there is hydraulic problem. This may involve the ABS system but it does not usually involve speed sensors.

The Brake/ABS lights can be on for something as simple as the brake fluid being low.

As stated above check the codes and post them here.
We'll be glad to help.
