cooling system

My cooling reservoir back fills when car is turned off. It has run hot in the past but it does not at this time. Went down the road about ten miles and it did not run hot but when i turned car off, and removed reservoir cap the reservoir overflowed. Its a 2000 Ford Taurus


might check for head gasket

might check for head gasket problem - have a carbon dioxide test, check for oil in water and water in oil. it may not be running hot yet but if thats the problem it could cause the overflow from the bottle.
make sure the thermostat and radiator cap is working properly as well.

Why did you open the cap? Explain what made you feel the need. This might give us a better feel for what's going on. Thanks.

I agree with all that's been posted so far, and in addition:

(You Said) It has run hot in the past.

So my question to you now is, during those times in the past when the engine has run hot, did you continue to drive the car while the engine was running hot, or did you shut off the engine right away?
