Electrical problem with my 83 chevy k10! Replaced starter, alternator 3 times, battery 3 times and still have an intermittent charging problem! Already rewired alternator lead straight to positive terminal.

Checked every fuse! Checked

Checked every fuse! Checked wires battery and alternator with a meter and all check out OK! Acts like they do when the voltage regulator starts going out but the regulator is made in the alternator on this truck and has been replaced 3 times.

just what is happening?

just what is happening?

The voltage on the system

The voltage on the system varies from 8.5 volts to 14.8 during drive cycles. No particular rhyme or reason! AC on or off lights on or off....etc. I thought it might be the meter but I drove with my volt meter on the battery and it is the same. I dont know what else can cause this except what I have already tried!

sounds like the alt. is

sounds like the alt. is switching from full out put to min. out put. check for a short on the broun wire from alt.

also check your harness for

also check your harness for the charging system for any high resistance readings

Does the altenator light

Does the altenator light work? Some of the older systems had the charge light intergrated into the alternator's charge circuit. In a case like that if the alt.light bulb went out the system wouldn't charge. If the bulb was loose the system would charge intermittently.
