Electrical System
While driving, my battery light comes on intermittently. I haven't noticed any dimming of lights, or change in A/C compressor or other things. The system check says "charging system ok" - this is a 2006 Mercury Mariner 6 cyl. Any idea why the idiot light and the system check are at odds?

Hello Dog, My name is Helene
Hello Dog,
My name is Helene and Big Block 409 is my boyfriend. He's away for two weeks, so I'll be filling in for him. There is a test known as a "LOAD TEST". Think of a load test as a "STRESS TEST" for your cars starting and charging systems. You can have a load test done for free at any Auto Zone store. Have the
test done and post the results. You should also use one part water and one part baking soda to clean the voltage and ground connections (especially grounds) in the starting and charging systems. Confirming tight connections is also critical. If you don't understand any of the above or have additional questions please feel free to post back.
Additionally:
How long have you had this problem?
Did this problem start after a routine service or repair was done? If it did, what was the nature of that service or repair?
Dog, I agree with Big Block.
Dog,
I agree with Big Block. A starting/charging system test would be a good idea.
Is your idle lower than normal when the battery light is on?
Is your engine light on?
If so most parts stores will do a free scan for trouble codes as well. Post any codes if you have them.
Post any info or questions back here. We'll be glad to help.
Hello Dog, In giving your
Hello Dog,
In giving your problem some additional thought, I have a question about the speed at which this problem occurs. In other words you stated that:
"while driving, my battery light comes on intermittently:
Well, at what speed are you driving at when the battery light comes on intermittently?
Does the light come on more frequently at a particular speed? If it does what is that speed?
If the speed doesn't matter, and the light comes on at all or any speed, then let us know that as well.
