GMC seirra, automatic transmission, my problem is that the truck wont reverse, all gears make the truck drive forward even neutral, what is wrong with it?

can you tell if the linkage
can you tell if the linkage is working properly is it moving the transmission lever on left side this may take 2 people set ebrake and block wheels before going under and engine off run it thru gears while watchn
i did that with my
i did that with my girlfriend, she said it goes through all gears but i cant push the lever into reverse.
it parks in park, the engine revs when its in reverse, drives in neutral, overdrive and drive.
the only way to make it roll backwards is when its set in neutral and turned off, even then pushing it is a struggle

can that actually narrow the problem down? not sure exactly but around 1989-92
you'll have to get it up on
you'll have to get it up on stands so you can run it, then work the transmission lever on the transmission to check for correct transmission operation. if ok problem is in linkage.
