I have a 1999 Chevy suburban 1/2 ton 5.7 engine. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel pump relay, and the vehicle runs but my fuel gauge has a minor vibration, and sometimes there is no fuel pressure and the vehicle wont start?

does it have fuel pressure

does it have fuel pressure when it's not starting?
why were the parts replaced in the frist place?

No, it doesnt have fuel

No, it doesnt have fuel pressure when it wont start. However, if I immediatly try to start it two or three times later it will work! the pump was replaced because the previous mechanic had broken the small sensor and tried glueing together with silicone. I'm wondering if the wiring in the new connector was done wrong? That was never checked! Why would the fuel gauge vibrate? My name is Fernando and my number is 907-310-7274 if this is easier for you. Thanks for the help!

do you mean the pressure

do you mean the pressure sensor on top of the fuel pump housing was broken?
did the truck have a no start problem befor the sensor was broken?

Yes, that two prong pressure

Yes, that two prong pressure sensor, and yes the truck had the same no start problem before, with the sensor already broken, and glued!

well, that sensor will not

well, that sensor will not cause a no start.
can you put a 12 volt test light a cross the 2 wires for the fuel pump and crank engin and tell us if it lights or do you already know it's getting power and ground?

I got power when I put the

I got power when I put the test light between body/frame ground and fuel pump hot swicth wire, but i never tested 2 of the four pump wires for ground. I take it two of those wires are for fuel gauge and the other two are for pump correct? I turned the ignition swicth on and it gave me current. Using the frame for ground. Will the fuel pump operate in reverse if the wires were crossed? That is what im thinking!!

there should be 4 wires, 2

there should be 4 wires, 2 are power and ground for the pump and the other 2 are gauge signal wire and it's ground.
i can send you a diagram of the pump, relay and ecm connectors so you can pin test them.
just need a email ad. to send to.
i cann't post pics here, let me know, mws919

Sure, thanks for the

Why would you think the gauge vibrates? its very small, it looks like the gayge itself is faded, but you shut the ignition switch off and it stops? Also, do you think the fuel pump will operate if the pump wires were crossed?

ok, is it a duel tanks? i'll

ok, is it a duel tanks?
i'll be sending shortly.

No, it only has one big tank.

No, it only has one big tank. What do you think about the wiring? Whats your input on that? I have been doig this for 29 years, and this one has me wondering!!!! Will the pump work if the wires were crossed? And what will cause the fuel gauge to vibrate like that?

Thanks!

Thanks!

i think if 12 volts@ 15 amps

i think if 12 volts@ 15 amps went up the gauge wire it would smoke the windings in the gauge, then the gauge would do nothing.

more than likely it's a

more than likely it's a connection problem.

What about the fuel pump

What about the fuel pump wires, will that make the pump to work in reverse and then quit after a while? causing the relay to shut off the pump?

Bestautorepair, Since no one

Bestautorepair,

Since no one else has bothered to post it, it seems like I must post it here and now. I’m sure you don’t realize this, but the issues you’re inquiring about are (RELATED) to “One Single Problem”. The minor “Vibration or Fluctuation” within the fuel gauge, and the occasional “No Start” issue are (DUE)to the installation of an "Aftermarket" fuel pump. You should know that (ALL) “GM” vehicles (DUE TO THE UNIQUE IMPELLER DESIGN) require an “OE” fuel pump to be installed. If you installed an “Aftermarket” fuel pump, (THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM), and that is what is causing (BOTH) issues you are describing.

check the fuel pump

check the fuel pump conectionand grounds. there ia a TSB on the instrument clusters for these trucks. Yours might be included.
