Welcome to 10w40.com. This is

Welcome to 10w40.com.

This is the Emissions/PCM/Fuel system. The code p0406 is a failed EGR valve that will need to be replaced.

Test & Fix:
Test the EGR valve position sensor voltage. Normal values are as follows:

Key On Engine Off (KOEO) = 4.2 volts. At 30% duty cycle the valve just starts to open. At 35% duty cycle voltage is approximately 3.2 volts. At 50% duty cycle voltage is approximately 2.2 volts. The scan tool should have an EGR System test so the valve can be run bi-directionally and commanded to various duty cycles while monitoring the feedback voltage from the EGR position sensor. After replacement of the EGR valve, be sure to remove one battery cable for 15 minutes to clear out the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) EGR memory. Failure to do this may result in another similar EGR code.

Good luck.
