i;d bring it back to who ever did the job.
I took it back but, they say that it is a ring problem and that they looked at the vavle seals and guides and that they were ok. All they did was take off the vavle cover. I don't even know if, you can see the vavle seals w/o taking off the heads and springs. They say they will pay for it if fixes the problem but, whose to say they will do it wrong again or jerk me arround so they don't have to pay for it? Do you think it is from the vavle seals or something else?
did they even install valve guide seals back on head after head was mech.? also what was the problem to start with?
if your burning oil your compression should be low, did they check that?
The original problem was that it would not start. It had overheated from a broken hose a week or two before that and was getting harder to start and finally would not start. They said it would not start then because I blew the head gasket and the compression was too low. They said they installed vavle guides and seals after mech. the heads. To check it now. They only did a leak test and said that was ok and took off the vavle cover and said the vavle seals were ok. They are trying to say it is the rings now because black smoke is coming out of the exhaust when the accelerator is pushed.
cheapest way out is to put another engine in it. you can get pretty good engines on line with low miles. we got one for a honda civic 2 years ago for $450 delivered. i don't know if you are aware of these japan engines that are removed by law and companys here buy them in bulk. they go through them and even give a warranty. i don't don't have the name of the company but just search japan used engines, there's a few of them.
I wish I knew this before I went thought this mess but, I appreciate the info. for the future.
a compression check with 2cc of oil added to the cylinder will tell if it's rings. the oil makes a seal around the rings so the compression will go up noitcibley. as a rule blue smoke is oil, white smoke is coolant and black smoke is fuel. how bad was the over heat, was it pining/knocking during it?
First, I found out that the mechanic did not put vavle guides in like I thought he did. Second, I guess the smoke was bluish in color. I had the compression checked and it was 175 on all cylinders. Then we put the oil in each cylinder as you said. The compression in each one went up to 200. I would think that 175 is good anyway and that going up only 25 would mean that the rings are good. They probably should have put the guides in and he mention that he seen a little play there. Third, the last time I took the car back. It was knocking bad and the timing was off by at least a tooth. The belt was also too tight. They loosened the belt ok but, they timing is still off and the dist. is all the way to lone side like it was before they tried to fix the timing. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
I forgot to say that when it origianlly overheated it did not knock but, since they woreked on it. It has a lot. I guess because the timing is off.
i would tell the shop that did the work, you're going to give them one last chance to make it right, or you are going to take some where eles and have it fixed at thier cost. another words, you'll see them in court. hopefully they will just give you your money back, then bring it to an import shop and have it fixed right.
