my 1993 chevrolet s-10,4.3 runs good up until it hits a certain temperature,then it stalls out,backfires and emits a strange smell,if i can keep it running,it smooths out after 5-10 minutes and runs fine after.

most of the time this is a problem with an ignition component. 1. Disconnect the set timing connector, test again. 2. Test for a loose/slipped distributor shaft reluctor. 3. Test ignition module power and ground. 4. Test ignition coil power and ground. 5. Test coil output. 6. Test spark output. make sure the ignition wires are not grounding out and are routed correctly.
