My 2000 Lincoln Continental has overheating problems. I have had cooling system flushed and thermostat replaced, and system checked (no leaks). Car will overheat with A/C on or off. Temp. gauge will go down when RPM's are raised above 2200-2500 RPM's. ???

1. Inspect the A/C condenser core and radiator for obstructions, such as leaves or dirt.

2. Check the radiator cap to ensure that it holds pressure.

3. If OK, use either a cylinder leakage tester or a chemical kit to determine if there are head gasket issues or internal engine coolant leaks.

4. If no internal leakage is found, check for a defective water pump impeller that is not circulating the coolant very well at higher engine RPM speeds.

5. If no other problems are found, remove the radiator and have it flow tested by a radiator shop.

Thanks for the reply. Number

Thanks for the reply. Number 1 & 2 were done when cooling system flushed. It overheats at low RPM's, with or without A/C on, parked or on the road. The gauge(temp) goes down when "reved up" or accelerated where RPM's are over 2500. I'm thinking- water pump. I have learned that the new models may not leak or make noise when bad, but the impellers can deteriorate. The car has 213xxx miles. Have not been loosing coolant, have not had to add, so probably no internal leaks.

Thanks for confirming probably water pump.

Check you'r fan to make

Check you'r fan to make sure it is operating . The fan clutch will make over heat if not turning properly.

Have checked both fans, they

Have checked both fans, they are electric. The Continental is front wheel drive(most people don't know that) so the engine is transverse mounted. The fans seem to be running fine.

So far we have replaced the: themostat (twice), water pump, radiator, flushed the system, and checked all hoses.
It still overheats when it wants to, but the temp. gauge goes down when the RPMs are reved or accelerate hard, over 2800 RPMs.
Someone said possibly an air bubble and to bleed it out. Don't know where the bleeder valve would be. Also, where is the thermostat. That was replaced at a shop twice(supposedly)
