my 2000 neon had started smelling like anti freeze and was overheating but the gage read normal and there was antifreeze on the pulley side of the engine. is it the water pump or the thermostat or some kind of plug on thr water pump?

That would be your water pump if your windsheild fogs up its your heatercore but sounds like your water pump

thats what i figured. thanks! the pump is around 100 to 110 bucks. if ya take the old one back when you purchase the new pump,you should recieve a rebate on the exchange. thats what they told me at partsource.
