Problem carb choke

I have a 1987 ford ranger 2.0L with a carburetor, it is missing the factory air cleaner and electrical part on the back of carburetor for the electronic choke, a manual choke cable was installed. I had repair tech that is know for his knowledge on carburetors try to get it adjusted it ran good for a couple of months during the summer. The problem now is the engine is stalling at stops signs,fast idle,smell of gas is bad,hard starting or engine starts and than stalls. I need to gat some options on fixing this problem that wont break the bank

Sounds more like a bad accelerator pump to me. Don't think it pays to put a rebuilt on or to have yours rebuilt. Just install a Holly. Check this link.
