the fuel gauge of the carburetor of my 1995 toyota jitney always indicates empty although the fuel tank is filled with gasoline and when i start the engine and feeds on gas, the engine stops, what seems to be the problem?

the view sight on the carb. should be about half full. sounds like it needs a float adjustment, or better yet a rebuild.
