(You asked) what causes the car to cut off while driving if the baterry and alternator are good on a chevy cobalt 2.2 motor.
Simple.
First thing to do is to post in detail how you checked the the alternator? You do realize that the alternator must be checked for proper voltage and amperage output right?
Other reasons for sudden cutting out.
A loss of spark delivery to the plugs (and or fuel) delivery to the plugs.
(And or a loss) of both (spark and fuel delivery) to all the plugs at the same time (ECM issue).
Also an issue with excessive exhaust back-pressure can cause a vehicle to suddenly stall or cut off.

What's also important here is after the car cuts off does it start up right away and easily or do you have difficulty in restarting it or have to wait a while for it to restart?
