what went wrong

I brought my 2004 Mercedes SLK 350 for routine service(service A), the last being 7,000 miles earlier. The car has 61,000 miles. I was surprised to find out from the dealership that they have to push the car because it stalled. the reason they said is the fuel pump that needs to be replaced. The car was running great and there were no indication of loss of power, stalling, etc. They are telling me that I have to have it done, otherwise, I have to have the car towed. I am skeptical about the whole thing. What really went wrong? Thanks

Dpangili, Sorry but we can't

Dpangili,

Sorry but we can't tell you what went wrong (if anything). Online auto repair remember? We don't have your vehicle in front of us, and we weren't at the dealership to witness any foul play. I say (if anything) because I can see you point and understand your concern, but on the other hand it's possible that nothing went wrong and there is no foul play. It's possible for a fuel pump to fail at anytime and without any prior warning.

Dpangili, I agree with Big

Dpangili,

I agree with Big Block. It's hard to say one way or the other. You might want to check around with consumer advocates such as the BBB to see if this type of issue is common with that dealer. You might also want to see if they will be willing to work with you. Alot of shops would do so just to save their rep and retain a customer. They might not replace it for free but maybe something such as you buy the part and they provide the labor. Don't stop at the service writer or service manager. Go to the top if you have to.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. Thanks.
