I have a 1988 olds 98 sometimes when i drive the car it just cuts off check engine light is not on i changed coil pack still cuts off want start until i let sit for few minutes starts up what can be the problem

i would check the fuel pump

did you repalce the ignition

did you repalce the ignition control module--ICM(that's the part that the ignition coils bolt onto). the ICM controls the coil pack and they've been known to break up due to heat, causing them to temporarily stop working when they reach a certain temp. Once they coll a little the engine will restart.

connect a fuel pressure guage

connect a fuel pressure guage to the fuel rail and drive the car. when it cuts off check the fuel pressure. if it losses pressure as it drives the fuel pump could be going bad (excessive resistance in its' circuits due to heat) If pressure is still good when it cuts off--pump is OK.

Hey it would be a good suggestion to have the secondary coil checked inside the distributer. I had an 80 model chevy engine and it was doing the same thing and that was the solution.
