1988 Ford Aerostar parts
I'm looking for the "filler neck" for a 1988 Ford Aerostar van The filler neck is the part that snaps into the abs gas tank and attaches to the hose that you use to fill the tank. I think that 1984 thru 1992 have the same part. anybody got an idea.

Sir Frog,
You can try a number of places such as fillernecksupply.com,
uneedapart.com and ebay as well as many others.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Sir.Frog,
My name is Helene and Big Block 409 is my boyfriend. He's away for two weeks, so I'll be filling in for him. Actually the neck for an 86 to 88 were the same.

Are you sure the issue is with the neck?
What exactly is the problem?
Thanks your your timely
Thanks your your timely response. My old filler neck supply is brittle and cracked in numberous places. Thanks for the lead.

Maybe I have the wrong terminlogy. The part I'm looking is about 4 inches long, snaps into the abs fuel tank And I guess the fuel filler neck slides into it.

Sir Frog,
Sorry you haven't been able to find your part. Did you use the link I gave you to Filler Neck Supply or did you call the number that Helene gave you? What I'm getting at is that if you call them they might be able to guide you where to look. You'd think that with a name like Filler Neck Supply they might have partners in the business that could help you.
See if you can find anything on uneedapart.com and ebay. Also, you can give the VIN to your Ford dealer and they should be able to fax you a parts breakdown even if they don't stock the part. That way you will have an exact part number and item description so you can search it online.
One other option is Advance Auto Parts. They own their own salvage yards and claim to warranty the parts.
Good luck.
Hello Sir Frog, There is no
Hello Sir Frog,
There is no aftermarket company that makes just the four inch part you are looking for. If your goal is to replace just that part, you must purchase it from a dealer.
Thank You
Helene
I would be more than happy to
I would be more than happy to by the fuel filler neck and the part I need, but the illistrations doesn't show the part I need. Thanks Denis
Frog, I spoke to Helene last
Frog,
I spoke to Helene last night. Sorry that she and the others didn’t inform you about the recall for structural cracks on your fuel tank and filler neck. The recall number is below. As I remember it’s good through 2002. You still gotta contact the dealer, because maybe he can pull some strings and still get the recall done for you at this late date. This a fire hazard, and it’s worth a shot here, tryin to get the recall done because it’s a free recall. You should also contact NHTSA and Ford customer service. I’m enclosing phone numbers. If push comes to shove then you gotta buy the updated tank and filler neck that was used in the recall and install them yourself. That four inch piece of pipe you’re lookin for, you can’t buy separately. Not even from a dealer. It’s part of the filler neck, and to replace it you gotta change the entire neck. Even if you buy a new neck and install you're still not gonna fix the problem. It's not just the neck that has cracks. It's the fuel tank as well. It's a two part repair. You gotta replace the tank and neck.
NHTSA Recall Number: 98V190000
FORD Customer Service 800-392-3673.
NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY 888-327-4236

Frog,
I have to admit that I knew about the recall but didn't mention it because it indeed expired in 2002. Sorry. I probably should have brought it up but thought it was pointless because of the expiration being almost a decade old.
I do like the way that Big Block is thinking. Big Block has a great idea. Get Ford and the NHTSA involved and see if you can get a free repair out of Ford. It's one of the weakest recalls I have ever seen. It only covered vehicles sold or operated in certain states (the hotter ones). Sometimes it's even limited to certain counties. What a joke.
Even if you can't get the job done free, take advantage of the recall info so you can atleast maybe get the parts you need.
Big Block and Helene,
Thank you Helene for taking the time to ask Big Block while he's on vacation. Thank you Big Block for shaking the tree a little. Maybe something good will fall out of it. I hope you are enjoying your motorcycle ride.
Thank-you for your
Thank-you for your assistance.
Hello Sir Frog, Block may be
Hello Sir Frog,
Block may be the man and the greatest mechanic in the universe but in this one (little) respect he is wrong. LORD ME FOR POSTING THIS. That four inch piece of pipe you are trying to replace is not part of the filler neck. It's part of the fuel tank and the filler neck fit's over it (not onto it), As always Block is right. This is a two stage repair where the fuel tank and neck must be replaced.
Thank You
Helene
Thanks for your bravery.
