1997 S500 Mercedes-Benz Sedan..ongoing questions with engine trouble...

The parts arrived today...got fuel pressure regulator, new oil filter, and fuel filter....changed fuel regulator..and now I have no gas coming out of vacuum port, and it cleared my multiple misfire code...p0300 cleared...now I am looking and looking for the fuel filter...it is 6 inches long and 3 inches in diameter and and inlet and outlet at each end, but I can't seem to locate it on the vehicle, I looked from the gas tank to the engine and can't see anything that looks like this part. I tried to follow the gas line as well as I could but I can't see it....BigBlock409 and ASEMASTER..any advise or help would again be really appreciated...and by the way my cylinder 3 new spark plugs number 3 looks like brand new and have determined that the coil pack or ignitor is bad as I moved it to another coil pack with another cyclinder and the trouble followed, code misfire on 3 when moved it again and trouble followed and said misfire on 1 and then moved it to 5 and it followed each time...ordered a couple of new ones today....BUT THE FUEL Filter where are you? Thanks again guys....Little John

John, What's goin on man? How

John,

What's goin on man? How are you? I don't understand your question? In an earlier post you said you found the fuel filter. Now you're sayin you can't find it. Look man I'm on my boat, in the Atlantic, about 80 miles off shore. Look for the filter along the right or left chassis rails. Also look for it near the fuel tank, and in the engine compartment. It's there man. The car car wasn't built around the filter. You're just missin it.

Hey BigBlock409, I know....I

Hey BigBlock409, I know....I feel like I'm going crazy, drive your boat up the St Lawrence, down the Richleau, into the Northern Part of Lake Champlain and come help me man. I'll pick you up at the dock at St Anne's Shrine.

I found the fuel regulator and changed that, problem cured but never the fuel filter, unless I am really cracking up I don't think I posted I found it..It's big enough to spot that's for sure, as I got the new part, and know what it looks like, will carry on and keep looking. Be safe out there. Thank you so much for the information and interest in my project.

EUREKA, I FOUND THE FUEL

EUREKA, I FOUND THE FUEL FILTER, UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE PROTECTED BY A LARGE BLACK PLASTIC COVER, UNDER WHICH IS THE FUEL FILTER AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE FUEL PUMP?

MY WIFE IS IN ON THIS NOW, AND WENT TO ANSWERS.COM AND WROTE THE QUESTION WHERE IS THE FUEL FILTER ON A 1997 S500 AND SOMEONE HAD ALREADY ASKED THE SAME QUESTION FOR A 1992 SL500, SO SHE SAID GO CHECK I BET IT IS IN THE SAME PLACE. AND SO IT IS...YAAAA!

ONE MORE OBSTACLE, IN MAKING THIS GREAT CAR WHOLE. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN, BIGBLOCK409 AND SAE MASTER, AND THEWIFE, (HOPE SHE DOESN'T SEE THIS) HAHAHA...

I THINK SHE COULD TAKE THIS ALL APART AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN BY NOW TOO...THIS INTERNET IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD...REGARDS LITTLEJOHN
ps>NEVER WORKED ON A MERCEDES-BENZ BEFORE, AND THIS CAR IS BUILT AMAZINGLY...

John, Off the top of my head,

John,

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking the fuel filter is mounted up there with the pump on the passenger side, in front of the tank, near the passenger rear tire, under a plastic shield.

John, I see you beat me to it

John,

I see you beat me to it by one minute. Sorry I didn't get a chance to post earlier. A day late and a dollar short. :-( Good job. Let us know if you have any other questions in the future. We'll do our best to get to you a little quicker. Thanks.

TOO BAD WE CAN'T POST

TOO BAD WE CAN'T POST PICTURES OF THIS STUFF.

John, JUST THINK! The money

John,

JUST THINK! The money you're saving by fixing the car yourself should come in quite handy to pay for the therapist and the hair implants you'll need. :-) Pretty soon you'll be like us. As far as the pics are concerned, you can post them on youtube and leave us the link for other readers. Thanks. Take care.

I am catching up I'm 68 years

I am catching up I'm 68 years young and not only the money which is great, I am proud to fix it myself and know that it will be a quality job and done right, no sense monkeying around with half ass, I enjoy this very much, working on a 1937 dodge pickup now too for 10 years...it's all home done, from stratch..shadetree mechanics...thanks again for all the imput..Little John

John, You're not finding the

John,

You're not finding the fuel filter because you're expecting to be out in the open, when it's not. The fuel pump and and fuel filter on your car are both (OUTSIDE) the fuel tank. The filter is held on with a double bracket, high u, under the drivers side chassis rail (closer to the fuel tank)under a protective shield.

Hi Ase Master, Thank

Hi Ase Master, Thank you..where have you been? Missed your posts. See my older posts. I finally found it under a black plastic shield, passenger side under rear door in front of tire. Looks like the fuel pump is there as well... Thank you again. Litte John read my other posts if you can..not to up on this internet stuff yet, but getting better...
