91 gmc sierra 1500-i have slack in my steering wheel-up/down side to side, but not rotation slack. something inside the column around the tilt is loose. how can i fix it and can my wheel come off while driving?

MOST TIMES YOU TAKE APART PLASTIC COVER SHAKE AND SEE WERE IT'S LOOSE MABEY A COUPLE LOOSE BOLTS NEED TIGHTENING. IT SHOULD'NT FALL OFF MABEY IT WILL FALL INTO YOUR LAP BUT YOU STILL CAN KEEP CONTROL TEMPARALILY
