They don't workif the leak is
They don't workif the leak is large. There is not even a good chance that they will work if the leak is small. Find the problem and repair it--that's the best bet.

replacing the cylinde head is the best and longest lasting repair for this problem.
Stopping compression from
Stopping compression from leaking out of the combustion chamber is without a doubt the hardest to seal. Stopping coolant from entering the crankcase
is not as hard but there is no guarantee that this will happen no matter what you use. I'm not a big fan of plugging companies but I do like BG Cooling System Sealer. Blue Devil is supposed to work and is also supposed to be guaranteed. Good luck.

Caution tech to using these
Caution tech to using these products as a crutch or alternative to good diagnostic procedures. I see more vehicles than I should where this "stop-leak type" of stuff has been used, hoping it would perform some car repair miracle.
They can be a problem
They can be a problem (stopping up radiators and heater cores etc.) but some manufactures swear by them ie. Caddilac and their pellets. If you can't build it right just build it and figure out the flaws later. LOL
