Hello jimj,
You're asking about replacing the blower motor resistor, but it sounds like you're not even sure if replacing the resistor will even resolve your problem or is the cause of your problem? Furthermore it sounds like you don't even know what the problem is? Let's not guess here Jim. Guessing is only a waste of your time and money. Right now the best thing you can do is post the signs and symptoms of your problem. Those indications could reveal what your problem actually is. On the other hand, if the heating or cooling system in truck is behaving in a manner that is out of the accepted norm, you should post that behaviour as well. Have I confused you? Sorry if I have. Simply stated Jim just post what your problem is and why you feel the problem has anything to do with the resistor?

Problem is,heater motor fan
Problem is,heater motor fan works occasionally. When working, high setting is not much more than low setting( it seems to speed up when turning right). Fan stopped working totally till I wiggeled resistor harness and tapped on blower motor. Worked for awhile and stopped again. Did the tap and wiggel again but no go. What do You think? Thanks, Jim

Try cleaning the connections at the resistor and makin sure they are on tight?

Gave it a try,cleaned and
Gave it a try,cleaned and secured the connection, also tapped the fan blower as best as I could and still no fan action.I have a new resistor and i'd like to try that first, but I need some guidance in removing and replacing resistor. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Jim, Hold off on replacin the

Hold off on replacin the resistor for now. Do this but understand it's just a test and not a permanent solution. Jump the fan directly to the trucks battery with a pair of jumper leads comin off the battery. If the fan works now reverse the leads (to reverse the polarity) and connect them to the fan again. The fan is good and does NOT need to be replaced as long as it works in both directions. (jumper leads connected then connected in reverse polarity). If the fan only works in one position then you gotta replace it. Get back to us with the results from the above test BEFORE you replace the resistor. We'll tell you how to replace the resistor.

Sorry man, but I forgot to include something in my last answer. Even if the motor checks out and BEFORE you replace the resistor, you gotta check the switch itself for continuity in all positions. You do that with a voltmeter or multi-meter set on continuity. At that point if the switch checks out, then replace the resistor.

You said "Yes all is clean and secured" when I asked you if you had checked for power and ground. If you have power and ground to the blower motor and the motor still doesn't work, then you have a faulty motor.
I'm going to word the question a little differently. When the blower fails to work, have you checked at the blower motor connector (with a meter or atleast a test light) to see if you have proper power and ground to the motor?

Well guys, I got back to work
Well guys, I got back to work on the Jimmy yesterday, and lo and behold, I got the blower working again. I forgot to mention earlier that the Jimmy had been sitting for a good six months before I took her back on the road. A friend told Me that the brushes in the motor can freeze up when sitting so long and to try tapping the hub on the back of the motor while turning the switch thru the speed cycles. So I gave it a shot before running the tests and sure enough, after a few taps, the blower kicked right over and is running just like it did in its heyday. Hopefully it keeps working and if it does't, you'll be seeing Me back on the board. Thanks to all who have taken the time to share Your knowledge and guidence.
