Brake light switch on 2008 chrysler Sebring
I have a 2008 Chysler Sebring that will only shift if you push real hard on brake and jiggle shifter for 15-30 mins while praying. Not long ago I had shifter replaced due to it wouldnt come out of park, and it was on recall. Now the other day my brake light stopped working. My husband thinks it is the brake light switch. What do you think? If it is the brake light switch, how do you change it out? Thanks

Stradley, I would agree that
Stradley,
I would agree that it is likely the switch. It should be checked to see if there is power going to the switch and power coming out when your failure occurs. The link below is not specific to your vehicle but both vehicles appear to have the same part number at Autozone. Hope this helps with the replacement.

Stradley, Your statement
Stradley,
Your statement appears below.
Now the other day my brake light stopped working.
Are the brake lights still not working?
Before replacing the switch have the "brake light basics" been ruled out?
Let us know if you or your husband need help with the "brake light basics". Getting the brake lights working is the first step. If after you get the brake lights working you still can't shift out of park let us know.
Brake lights still not
Brake lights still not working. Other problems it has that might not be related is cruise works off and on, and went out and battery to car was dead and it is not time for it to go out. I'm really frustrated will this car, but can't afford a lot of maintenance work or new car.
Yes please help with brake
Yes please help with brake light basics.
Stradley, The brake light
Stradley,
The brake light switch is used to activate the shift lever solenoid, activate the brake lights and deactivate the cruise control (in addition to other things). Also, if gets stuck in the on position this can drain your battery.
On the brake light basics:
Recharge your battery and check to make sure the cable connections are clean and tight.
Depress the brake pedal and check for power and ground to the bulbs.
If there is no ground check the wiring.
If there is no power to the bulbs check at the brake light switch for power from the switch when the pedal is depressed.
If there is no power from the switch check for power and ground to the switch.
If there is no power or ground check fuses and wiring.
I know you are getting tired of dealing with this car but there might be a little good news here. If it is your switch it is very easy to install (check the video link I gave you) and will probably only cost you around $11.00 for the part that should come with some instructions if you buy it at Autozone.
Let us know what you find. Thanks.
Thank you and I will lett you
Thank you and I will lett you know. Can't work on it until Friday due to I'm out of town. Will let you know then.
