CV AXLE INSTALLATION

IM TRYING TO INSTALL A CV AXLE ON A 2000 KIA SPECTRA AND IT WON'T GO IN ALL THE WAY BECAUSE THEIRS A SMALL SHAFT INSIDE THE TRANNY THATS NOT ALLOWING THE AXLE TO SLIDE ALL THE WAY IN.IT'S THE DRIVER SIDE. IT'S A MANUAL TRANSMISSION 5 SPD, DOES THAT LIL SHAFT SLIDE UP IN THE TRANNY AND IF SO HOW? PLEASE HELP ME. THANKS

Stormin, Based on your

Stormin,

Based on your description it sounds like what probably happened is that you didn’t use a side gear holder tool to hold the differential side gear in place. Now the gear is out of position, and now you gotta remove the differential to realign the gear. Here’s a link that will help.

BIG BLOCK 409, I WENT TO THAT

BIG BLOCK 409, I WENT TO THAT PAGE AND IT WON'T OPEN,IT SAYS PAGE NOT AVALIBLE

Storminb, I just checked his

Storminb,

I just checked his link and it worked for me. If you copy and paste the link again and it still doesn't work you can create your own account there (assuming your settings will let you). It's FREE (autozone.com). Once you do you can enter your vehicle info. After that you can click on repair info (at the top) and then click on view vehicle repair guide (underneath your ride your guide). From there you can click on drivetrain and then click on halfshafts.

Big block 409 I just went to

Big block 409 I just went to the autozone site and checked it out but im not getting my answers... where is the gear holder slide located on the transmission or was the holder suppose to go into the axle hole in the tranny?

how do I get to the gear now? you said something about removing the differential... im used to rear wheel drive cars so to me that would be the rearend but i know this is front wheel drive so im missing something or just way out in left field lol thanks for your help... im just confused

Stormin, You gotta buy the

Stormin,

You gotta buy the tool that holds the differential gears in place from a KIA dealer. Now that the differential gear has "dropped" and is out place, you gotta pull the differential (to get to the gear) so that you can put it back into it's proper position. The best source of information for pullin the differential is the shop manual. When you're at the dealer buyin the tool buy the shop manual as well. The manual is a worth while investment. It makes sense to have it, especially if your intention is to do your own work on the KIA and keep it for a while.

Hey Big block 409 how are you

Hey Big block 409 how are you doing today? thanks for the info on the differental tool. Now on a front wheel drive car... is the differental the actual transmisson or is it a part connected to the tranny where the axle goes in?

STORMINB, I’ll keep this

STORMINB,

I’ll keep this basic so as not to melt your brain. The differential is a device that divides engine torque two ways. This division allows each output to spin at a different speed. Just think of an output as your wheels.

The differential has three jobs:

To divert engine power to the wheels.

To act as a unit of final gear reduction in a vehicle, thus slowing the rotational speed of the transmission one final time before the energy/power hits the wheels.

To transmit the power/energy to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds. That’s why it’s called a differential.

Here’s an informative link.

you have a transaxle (not

you have a transaxle (not called transmission any more..mainly because the transmission and rear axle are together in one unit). I still use the two terms to mean the same thing.

you may have to remove the transaxle to fix the problem.

STORMINB, Based on the last

STORMINB,

Based on the last posting I see the need to keep this really (SIMPLE AND BASIC). Your vehicle (DOES NOT HAVE A REAR AXLE). Furthermore the terms trans-axle and differential (ARE SYONYMOUS). If you have an issue with the word (SYONYMOUS) then let me know and I'll post a description that even (YOU CAN UNDERSTAND).

Ase master lol this is funny,

Ase master lol this is funny, I know the car doesn't have a rear axle/differental... it was put to me as a differental so thats why I questioned it the way I did.
I know its front wheel drive and I know its a tran-axle unit.
this is not my car, i'm just changing out the cv axle and ran into something unfamiliar thats it. I'm an ol skool guy.. rear wheel drive cars,I don't own anything front wheel drive. I just work on them from time to time.

now thats out the way lol when I take lose the trans-axle from the clutch housing, will anything pop out like springs or bearings or anything like that? will it just seperate and come loose? will I have to sperate it slowly so nothing falls out?

this will be my first disasembly on a manual trans-axle and at the same time im gonna do a clutch replacement. Any help will be appriciated thanks.

Can I just change the crank

Can I just change the crank bearings on a 1984 5.0 camaro without having to do any other work? I hear a knock in the bottom of the engine, i havn't taken the oil pan out yet im just going on sound until i break it down... just curious

Storm, This post is for the

Storm,

This post is for the KIA. Let's keep it that way so there is no confusion. Start a new post for crank bearings on the Camaro.

The answer to the KIA question is yes. Pull it apart slowly and expect other parts to fall out. That's just one of the reasons i told you to buy the shop manual for this job.
