Do I need to compress the coil spring to replace the front strut on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and is there any other function needed to replace this leaking strut?

If you are replacing the

If you are replacing the strut and spring, then you don't need to compress the spring; just replace the whole assembly.

However, if you are only replacing the strut, then the spring will have to be compressed. Remove the strut assembly, then compress the spring and remove it from the strut. Be very careful during this process because the spring could slip out and cause injury. (Use a good quality srping compressor)
