Accordman, The symptoms you
Accordman,
The symptoms you are describing are often indicative of a charging system problem. I don't know what you have checked so far but I would recommend a complete starting/charging system test. If and when you do I would not just be looking for low output. The system could be overcharging. Double check the system output at high RPMs. Autozone will perform a free start/charge test but make sure the system is monitored when it's over 2000 RPMs (while the trouble lights are on and all accessories are off).
Post the results back here. We'll be glad to help
Drivability, you were right
Drivability, you were right on - had Autozone check the alternator which was working perfect at idle - when we kicked up the rpm to 2000, the alternator output dropped significantly. Replacing the belt and alternator. Thanks a bunch.
Accordman, You're welcome.
Accordman,
You're welcome. I'm glad we could help but make sure that the belt is not slipping. Some belts will not make the telltale screeching noise especially if there is any kind of contamination on the belt. Hopefully you will double check this before you replace the alternator.
Let us know how it turns out. Thanks.
