I own1993 ford f-150 with a 4.9l were the the exhaust becomes a single pipe. some type of vent tube on the single pipe has broke off and goes back towards moter. what is this tube and how do i get fixed. Or were on the web can find drawings or pictures to look at

Hello truck broke, This

Hello truck broke,

This explains the purpose of the tube.

If an engine's exhaust is high in hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, an air pump and tube feed for extra oxygen delivery directly to the catalytic converter is used. Internally is a 3-way air injection system, with two substrates. The front chamber is coated with rhodium and palladium. Rhodium reduces NOx emissions into simple nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2). This process is most effective when there is little oxygen present which is why this substrate is located upstream of the air tube inlet. A second substrate of palladium and platinum is located downstream of the air inlet so the increased oxygen enhances the oxidation of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

This explains how to repair the tube.

There is no repair. The tube is designed to outlast the life of the vehicle. If the tube is damaged it's because an amateur damaged, altered, or modified it. When any of the above occur a new tube must be fashioned out of a solid piece of seamless stainless steel and professional welded into to place at both the air pump side and catalytic converter side.

Thank You
Helene
