fule pump

my 97 lincoln would sometimes just quit while going down the road. If I would wait and try again it would start and run. It did this several times. The last time it would not start. I tryed some starting fluid. It would run untell the fluid ran out.So the problem seemed to be no gas. how do i tell if it is the fuel filter or fule pump? I mean with out buying a bunch of parts. Do you think it is the fule pump.

If my fuel pump is bad do you

If my fuel pump is bad do you know of a repair manual that showes how to replace it. thanks s-sampson

S, Don't be so quick to

S,

Don't be so quick to condemn the fuel pump. Yes it could be the fuel pump, but it could be an ignition problem as well. The next time you're driving the car and it just quits, use the time that it's off and WON'T start to determine what is NOT reachin the spark plugs. It's gotta be either fuel or spark or both:

Use an Inline Spark Tester to confirm spark delivery to all the plugs.

Use a fuel system pressure tester to confirm fuel delivery to all the plugs.

Use a "Noid Light" to confirm injector pulse to all fuel injectors.

BTW: how long is the car off/stalled for before it restarts?
