how do i replace cv joints on a 2001 mazda tribute

The cv shaft is much easier

The cv shaft is much easier to replace than trying to replace each joint and boot. To replace the cv shaft you will need to raise and support the vehicle using approved jack and jack stands, remove the tire, unbolt the brake assembly and remove the rotor, loosen and remove the large nut(32mm+) securing the cv shaft to the bearing hub assembly and gently tap the end of the shaft with a ball peen hammer to make sure the shaft is freed from the hub, unbolt the lower ball joint and separate the lower control arm from spindle using a pry bar and a ball peen hammer (this usually requires some persuasion) once the spindle and lower control arm are separated remove the cv shaft from the hub assembly and use a pry bar to pop the opposite end of the cv shaft from the transmission. simply reverse the process to reinstall the cv shaft and all other components in the order they were disassembled. Make sure to torque the tire lugnuts to 90-100 ft lbs of torque. DO NOT DRIVE CAR YET. sit in the drivers seat and press the brake pedal down to the floor several times until the brake pedal feels secure under your foot then you are all set to drive happy motoring
