How to remove the alternator on a 2000 Lincoln LS?

I have removed the three

I have removed the three bolts which are supposedly the only things keeping the alternator in place. However, now the alternator pivots as if still connected and every time I try to shift it upwards, it hits a large metal pipe so that I cannot wiggle it. Is there a way to get the alternator out without removing half of the engine in this stupid car? Thank you for any help
