I have a 2002 Dodge Quad Cab 1500 4.7 liter V8. How do you know if the head gasket or valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. My engine does not over heat, but does use radator fluid . It does emit some steam or moisture from the tail pipe .

check the oil,if its looks

check the oil,if its looks like a milkshake you have a head-gasket problem or a cracked head,it might even be a upper intake manifold gasket problem.the only way to find out is to tear apart the engine.

the valve cover gaskit would

the valve cover gaskit would have nothing to do with the problem you have.

put a rad pressure tester on

put a rad pressure tester on the vehicle. Run engine and watch guage. If it climbs up to the right hand side rather quickly then you have a head gasket problem. if it stays within the yellow or low side then it is good and you will have to tear down the engine
