I have a '91 Olds Delta 88 with a loose steering wheel. The engine dies when I'm driving because it's out of alignment. How do I go about tightening it, and what tools do I need?

It seems like an electrical problem, but I do need new struts. Can the tierods cause the engine to shut off? Thanks for responding!
i think you have two
i think you have two problems, as where the alingment will not cause the engin to stall. now when you say steering wheel is loose, do you mean the steering colunm part is loosr or it seems to wander while driving? if it's the colunm that is loose, there is 4 bolts that do loosen up in the tilt area. let me know what you think. mws919
It's loose at the base of the
It's loose at the base of the steering column, where the wheel fits into the mount. It's like there's a short in the wiring, and the electricity gets cut to the ignition. Thanks for your response!

I found a shadetree mechanic
I found a shadetree mechanic that will fix it for free. He said that the tilt joint is worn out and the misalignment shuts the ignition off. Nothing to do with wiring. He's going to get a used column at a salvage yard and put it on for me. I'll let you know how it goes. You guys are awesome for helping a lady out! I'm sure I'll have more questions later on.
