I have a 95 honda prelude and i just replaced the rack and pinion, however my steering wheel is completely sideways and the alignment is way off.. what steps did i leave out during the exchange of the rack and pinion

Center the wheels and then look at the steering wheel to see how far off it is. You will probably have to disconnect the stering shaft from the rack (with the wheels in the straight ahead position), center the steering wheel and then reconnect the steering shaft to the rack.

becareful on how far you turn steering wheel when it's disconnected from rack, more than 3 turns will damage clock spring and air bag and horn will not work.
