my 96 pontiac sunfire 2.2L has a rusty drum with shoes that need to be replaced and i can not get the drum off no matter what i do it seems like the drum is locked on by the brakes what can i do to get this drum off

on the back side of the drum
on the back side of the drum is a brake adjustment slot - turn the wheel behind the slot to loosen the shoes and release the drum - spray some wd40 on the middle circle on the front of the drum - tap the drum firmly on the top, sides and bottom.
it will come off.
