I need a tip on how to remove the rear drum in order to inspect the rear shoes on a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD. When I pull the drum outward it moves slightly and then refuses to move further despite some prying. The E-brake is off.

The brake has a self-adjuster

The brake has a self-adjuster with an access hole usually located in the backing plate (metal shield behind the drum)which is cover by a rubber plug to keep dirt/water out. Remove the plug, use a screwdriver to adjust the "starwheel" backwards in order to pull the brake shoes away from the drum to allow "easy" removal.
