My 99 civic dx automatic starts up but then stalls, it will keep running if I give it gas but stalls when I take my foot off the gas pedal?

Welcome to 10w40.com. Likely

Welcome to 10w40.com.

Likely Causes:

Throttle Body - A dirty throttle body or an incorrect base idle speed setting can cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve - A faulty or sticking IAC valve may cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

Overlooked Causes:

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve, If Equipped - An EGR valve that is sticking open can cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

Good luck.

looks like an awesome

looks like an awesome website, did not get a chance to explore rest of it yet, but i definite will do so.

thanks for the help the diagram is very helpfull, first time working on car, but I have dived in head first. I was not able to find a used iacv so I baught a new one from autozone since they said the code P1509 means a bad iac valve. i intalled the new iac valve with the help of autozone worker and neighbor. but the problem persist, no changes. the car will start and then stall at idle. but will keep running if I give gas.
