my outer tie rod end on my 2005 Chevy Malibu, is loose, do i need to replace the inner one too?

No, you can just replace the outside tie rod by itself.

When you replace the tie rod try and remember how many "revolutions" it took for the tie rod to come off.

Use the same amounts of turns when reinstalling.

This isn't precise, but it will minimize any tire wear until you can get the vehicle aligned.

You will need an alignment after this repair.
